Frequently asked questions

Hello!

I understand how hard it can be to choose and commit to a photographer - let alone prepare for a session.

Below are some of those FAQ’s to hopefully help make it all a bit easier

What makes you different?

Honestly, it comes down to this—I love capturing the real, raw moments you’ll want to remember forever. I’m easy-going, fun, and always have your best interests at heart. I invest a lot of myself into every session, taking the time to really get to know you. I’ll chat, laugh, and probably make fun of myself to help you feel completely relaxed in front of the camera!

Where are you based?

I am based in Southern Tasmania, close to the Hobart CBD but I am up for travelling and exploring all of beautiful Tasmania.

What’s your style?

I’m a natural light lifestyle photographer. This means I focus on genuine emotion and connection, not stiff, posed shots. Instead of “everyone look at the camera and say cheese,” I’ll gently guide you so you feel natural and comfortable, then capture the little moments—the cuddles, laughter, and chaos—that truly tell your story.

What should I expect during a session with you?

Expect to have fun! Laugh, cuddle, kiss, and play with each other. Forget about making the kids behave or forcing them to sit still—let them be wild and free! That’s when the magic happens.
I’ll give you light guidance (like where the best light is or prompts such as “give them the biggest cuddle!”), but mostly, I’ll let moments unfold naturally while you stay connected with your loved ones.

Where will the session

take place?

The possibilities are endless! Tasmania is full of stunning locations. I recommend starting with places that are meaningful to you:

Do you love summer beach days?

Bushwalks in nature?

Your favorite café for coffee and babyccinos?

Or maybe your cozy family home?
If you’re unsure, I’m happy to suggest some great options based on your vibe.

Do you do in-home sessions? How does that work?

Absolutely! In-home sessions are so special because they capture your family in your own cozy, unique space.
When I arrive, I’ll take a quick look around to find the best light (usually bedrooms and living areas). We’ll use a couple of rooms and can include activities like baking cookies or playing with your little ones. These sessions are relaxed, intimate, and all about you.

What time do your sessions normally take place?

Indoor sessions: Flexible! Mornings often work best for little ones, but afternoons are fine too
Outdoor sessions: Most people choose golden hour (just after sunrise or before sunset) for that dreamy light. In summer, that can mean early mornings or late evenings—but trust me, it’s worth it! If that’s tricky with kids, we can work out the best time for your family.

What happens if one of us is sick?

Sickness happens and we will reschedule if you guys are sick, and we’ll also reschedule if I’m sick.

I would rather have everyone happy and well

What if the weather forecast isn’t looking great and we have an outdoor session booked?

Welcome to Tasmania—where we can experience four seasons in a single day! If the forecast is looking wet, don’t stress. I always keep an eye on the weather and will touch base the day before (or morning of) your session. If it’s raining, we’ll simply reschedule to another day that works for you. Sometimes the weather surprises us, so we’ll make the call together and keep things flexible.

What should I wear?

This is by far the question I’m asked the most! My biggest tip? Wear something you feel amazing in—and comfortable too. If you’re uncomfortable, it will show in the photos, so choose outfits that let you move and feel confident.

I also offer a client wardrobe with beautiful options for mums, newborns, and a small selection for little ones, so you don’t need to stress if you’re stuck..

That said, here are some tips to make your session look extra special:

  • Neutrals are timeless! Think creams, soft browns, muted greens, and earthy tones. If neutrals aren’t your thing, go bold with rich, solid colors—but avoid neons.

  • Flowy maxi dresses or skirts and simple, classic basics paired with textured layers (cardigans, scarves, kimonos) photograph beautifully.

  • Avoid shirts with big graphics, logos, or lettering—they can be distracting in photos

  • Coordinate, don’t match. Complementary colors work best. A great starting point is for mum to choose her outfit first (perfect excuse to treat yourself to something you love!) and then build everyone else’s looks around that.

  • For newborns: Keep it simple—plain onesie and a gorgeous swaddle or blanket. For in-home newborn sessions, bring a couple of backup outfits for you and bub (just in case). Most of the time, I’ll photograph baby in a nappy or wrapped up, so no need to stress!

  • Consider your location: If we’re at the beach, leave the heavy boots at home and go barefoot for a natural look.

Most importantly, be you. The best photos come when you feel confident, relaxed, and ready to enjoy the moment.

My kids are rather ‘spirited’ will it be okay?

Absolutely! Honestly, I get it—kids will be kids (and I’m glad it’s not just mine!). The beauty of my sessions is that they’re not about forcing little ones to sit still and smile for an hour. Instead, we embrace the chaos! Let them run, play, laugh, and explore. Snuggle them close, give them all the kisses and cuddles, and just go with it.
We can take as many snack, drink, or tantrum breaks as needed. Usually, because there’s no pressure, kids end up having a great time!

Do you offer posed newborn sessions?

My newborn sessions are lifestyle-focused, so I don’t do heavily posed studio-style setups. I do bring along a beanbag, wraps, and blankets for some simple, cozy shots, but the main goal is to capture those beautiful, natural moments with you and your baby.
If you have special mementos—like a family heirloom blanket or a favorite toy—I’d love to include those too!

When is the best time to have a newborn session?

Traditionally, the first 4–12 days is considered the ideal time for newborn sessions because babies are often sleepier and more settled. But honestly? I think anytime is perfect—you’ll want to remember every stage while they’re little.
Newborn sessions usually take 1–2 hours, so we have plenty of time for feeding, nappy changes, and cuddles. Pro tip: Be prepared for some extra feeds during your session—a full tummy = a happy, content baby!

Can you Photoshop me to make me look a few years younger or a couple of kilo’s lighter?

Sorry, no! I’m all about embracing our beautiful, real selves. I do carefully edit every photo for light, color, and contrast, and I’ll remove small distractions like a blemish or lint on clothing—but I won’t alter body shapes, change hairstyles, or completely transform how things look. My style is natural, authentic, and all about celebrating YOU as you are.

Are pets able to join in?

Yes, please! Pets are such a special part of the family, and I absolutely welcome them in sessions. I can’t promise they’ll always cooperate (they have their own ideas!), but I’ll do my best to capture their adorable personalities.

How long after our session will we receive the photos?

For family, maternity & newborn sessions, your gallery will be ready within 2–3 weeks via a secure online gallery. You’ll be able to view your images (watermarked) and select your favorites or upgrade to purchase the full gallery. (During busy periods, this may occasionally take an extra week, but I’ll always keep you updated!)
For weddings, I’ll send you a sneak peek within a couple of days so you can share with family and friends. Your full gallery will be delivered within 3–5 weeks.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes! I understand photography is an investment, and I want it to be accessible. I offer flexible payment options so you can spread out the cost. Just let me know if this is something you’d like to set up, and we’ll work out a plan that suits you.

How do I book a session?

It’s super easy! Just fill out the contact form on my website or email me at exposephotographytas@gmail.com with the type of session you’re interested in. From there, we’ll chat about dates, locations, and all the fun details. To secure your spot, a signed contract and a non-refundable retainer are required—then the countdown to your session begins!
